The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, and that of the European Club Association (ECA), Nasser Al-Khelaifi, renewed this Monday, until December 31, 2030, the Memorandum of Agreement, which "reinforces the relationship between the two parts, in addition to providing stability to club and national team football".
The signing took place in Budapest, on the occasion of the twenty-ninth General Assembly held by the ECA this Monday and Tuesday, and includes a renewed commitment by the clubs to adhere to the men's international calendar, -which was unanimously approved during the recent FIFA Council held on March 14 - until 2030.
As reported by FIFA, the ECA also confirmed its support for the new Club World Cup, which from 2025 will have 32 teams, 12 of them European; to the celebration of an annual match between the winner of the UEFA Champions League and the champion of the intercontinental qualifiers and to the creation of the FIFA Women's Club World Cup.
Among other aspects, the agreement provides that the amount of the Aid Program for Clubs, which compensates those who loan their players to the teams participating in the World Cup, will increase from the 209 million dollars reserved for those of Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022. up to 355 million dollars for the 2026 and 2030 editions.
The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, assured that this Monday "is a remarkable day for the future of football and for its long-term stability" and expressed his enormous satisfaction for "renewing and reinforcing the collaboration agreement with the ECA, a important interest group representing clubs from all over Europe".
"ECA's support for the new international men's calendar will provide a necessary balance between club and national football. Exciting projects await us, including the new FIFA Club World Cup from 2025 and the new FIFA World Cup FIFA Women's Clubs Close collaboration with European clubs and the rest of the world will be key to the success of these tournaments," he added.
The president of the ECA, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, also expressed his joy at signing "this historic agreement, which recognizes the central role of clubs in global football and ensures their adequate representation when making decisions on issues that may affect them."
