The Circuit de Barcelona will increase investment in improvements to 50 million euros

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has set its sights on being the benchmark facility for permanent Formula 1 and MotoGP tracks. The Government of the Generalitat has announced, through the CEO of the Circuit, Oriol Sagrera, the investment of 50 million euros in improvement works in the period 2022-26 (when the current contract with Liberty Media will end). That is, 20 million more than announced for the 2022-24 period.

The new works to improve the facilities will include the remodeling of the pits, the roofs of the stands, the control tower and the pit floors.

This year, work began on the control tower, which will be completely renovated. The briefing room, press room, stewards' and timing rooms and hospitality areas will be updated. New offices and rooms will also be created to hold business or social events and meetings.

One of the new features will be the creation of a VIP walkway that will connect the paddock with the interior stands. It will be a new iconic element of the Circuit along with the visor of the Main Grandstand, the emblem of the Montmeló layout. The catwalk is scheduled to debut during the F1 GP, June 21-23.

According to the managers of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the arrival of Madrid in F1 from 2026 should not affect the renewal of the GP in Montmeló. In 2026, the first year of Madrid's decade-long contract, the two capitals will co-exist on the F1 calendar. And the will of Barcelona, the City Council and the Circuit, as well as Montmeló, the RACC and the Government - the actors of the management company - is to extend the relationship with Liberty Media.

The grand prix in Montmeló, however, must change its name from 2026 (the "Spanish GP" will go to Madrid). The name that has the most integers is the "European GP", as the MotoGP GP was already called from 1992 to 1995, before being called the Catalan GP until now.
