Sabrina Ionescu sets a new WNBA 3-point record

It was only a matter of time for Sabrina Ionescu. The American point guard hit her 122nd triple in the match against the Los Angeles Sparks to set the record for most three-point baskets in a single WNBA season. The record dated back to 2006 and it took an unusual one to break it 17 years later.

It was his second triple of the night. With 7:21 left in the third quarter and to cut the difference on the scoreboard for his team to 8 points. There was barely time to celebrate. A smile and continue looking to turn the score around. And they did it. 96-89 was the final score for the victory of the New York Liberty, Ionescu's team.

Thus she left behind the mark that was established in the 2006 season by the legend Diana Taurasi. The American of Argentine descent still holds several records, such as being the top scorer in the entire history of the WNBA to be considered one of the best basketball players on the planet.

The immensity of Taurasi is clear to Ionescu, who after finishing the clash was questioned about the feelings that reached this mark left her. "It's an honor every time you get to top arguably the best basketball player to ever play in the WNBA," the American said.

Ionescu made headlines a couple of months ago when he smashed the record for most baskets in the famous 3-point contest. And with 37 points she left behind the records not only of the WNBA (30), but also of the NBA (31), held by Allie Quigley in women and Stephen Curry along with Tyrese Haliburton in men.

The American managed to break the record for most triples in a campaign in the penultimate game of the regular season for her team. She still has one last chance to increase the statistic this Sunday when they close against the Washington Mystics at the Barclays Center in New York.
