Luis Gil Torres, director of LaLiga competitions, dies

Former soccer player Luis Gil, director of competitions and the player's office, died this Sunday at the age of 48. LaLiga reported what happened in a statement in which it also sent "to his entire family, especially his wife Lola and his children Gabriela and Lucas, a huge hug and all the strength in the world in these difficult times."

Luis Gil first stood out as a professional footballer, from 1996 to 2010, in clubs such as RCD Mallorca, SD Logroñés, Nàstic de Tarragona, Real Murcia, Sevilla FC, Polideportivo Ejido, Elche CF, CD Tenerife, Alicante CF and CD Alcoyano.

At an institutional level, he was a member of the board of directors of the Spanish Football Players Association (AFE) and its manager from March 2010 to January 2016. He also actively participated in the negotiations of the Professional Football Collective Agreement between LaLiga and the AFE.

In July 2017 he joined LaLiga as director of competitions, an area from which he has participated very actively in the search for the well-being of footballers, the best possible coordination with other institutions in the preparation of calendars and the design of competitions. "The personal and professional void that Luis Gil leaves, both in the League and in the football industry, is immeasurable. We will miss him. Rest in peace, friend and colleague," reads the LaLiga statement.

The first to announce his death was the president of the employer's association, Javier Tebas. "It is with great regret that we announce the death of our beloved competition director, Luis Gil Torres, who was also a great professional player and general secretary of the AFE. His departure leaves us with a deep void, but also a legacy of integrity and dedication to football. , he taught us, among other things, that vision from the point of view of the professional player that LaLiga needed.

Today we remember not only his professional contribution, but also the spirit of camaraderie, his loyalty and leadership of continuous improvement, which he infused into every aspect of his life. In this time of mourning, we raise thoughts of faith, peace and comfort to his family and loved ones. We will pray for you. When my time comes, which comes to all of us, we will embrace each other. May you rest in peace", concludes the message from Tebas.
