LaLiga asks to charge Google, Apple and Huawei in Spain in their fight against piracy

LaLiga continues its battle against piracy, with legal actions that now target the heads of Google, Apple and Huawei in Spain.

According to ElDiario.es, the body chaired by Javier Tebas would have asked the Spanish justice system to name executives of said companies as being investigated for their alleged inaction regarding the IPTV application Newplay, accused of facilitating piracy of soccer broadcasts.

LaLiga accuses these companies of “crime of serious disobedience” for not preventing users of their mobile phones from using said application and of “necessary cooperation” in the crime of piracy allegedly committed by the developer of Newplay. Likewise, it requests their declaration as “profitable participants” for not having blocked access to the Newplay application despite the 2022 order that required them to withdraw their platforms, as well as prevent access to those users who had downloaded it. , immediately cease payment of commissions derived from its paid version and make available to the court any amounts that may be pending delivery to the technological developer.

Although the Newplay application is no longer available for download, LaLiga considers that there is a non-compliance with the rest of the requirements of said order, both in relation to blocking its use by people who already have it downloaded and the storage in the court of instruction number 1 of Cieza of the money that said application has generated by subscriptions. LaLiga considers that the fact that these organizations have not prevented users who downloaded the application from using it implies that “they would have incurred not only criminal liability for the events that are being investigated in this case, but also civil liability for the prejudices caused.”

This new judicial action adds to LaLiga's continued initiatives to protect the broadcasting rights of football matches and other sports content, insisting that legality be respected and those who profit from piracy be punished.
