If the first day of the twentieth edition of PalmaVela was marked by weather conditions, with the wind blowing very intensely, on this second day of competition there was a respite.
This Friday, all the day's tests were carried out normally and, once again, one of the protagonists was Galateia which, although it did not stand out as much as yesterday, continues to lead its category.
In the IMA Maxi class, the largest in the fleet, they have added two new windward/leeward format tests after which the Wally Centos occupy the highest positions in the table. Galateia, with partial scores of 3-4, maintains the lead with skipper Ole Hansen's V very close, both tying with five points. For its part, the Swedish J Class Svea, the largest at the event, occupies provisional third place.
Three more classes have sailed on the same Bravo race course. Yann Lythgoe's Kim leads ORC 2 with two partial victories that place him as the best of the day. In ORC 3, Pep Pons and his Wanderlust have signed a first and a second that put him in the lead, while in ORC 4/5 he leads the CN Arenal through Juan Escandell's Tres Mares.
The coastal regattas began at the Charlie course. In ORC 0 the Urbania of Tomás Gasset and Marina Vela Barcelona won, and in ORC 1 the Polish Windwhisper44 of Marcin Sutkowski did the same. In both cases it was a journey of just over 24 nautical miles. “It has been a really complete regatta,” declared Iñaki Castañer, tactician aboard Urbania.
In the ORC A2, crewed by only two people, the course was shorter, 17.3 miles, and Eduardo Horrach's RCN de Palma boat Azuree took the victory.
Regarding classic sailing, the 6 Meters inaugurate their second participation in the Mallorcan event led by the Swiss Momo, of Dieter Schoen, the most consistent of the day. Stella (6-1) and Ginkgoo Too (1-6) won a heat respectively and finished the day second and third respectively.
For their part, the Spirit of Tradition, with eleven boats on the starting line, completed a 17-mile coastal regatta in which Calima, owned by owner Javier Pujol and skippered by the Cantabrian Patxi Rivero, won.
In PalmaVela there is also room for boats known as 'monotypes', which are characterized by being equal and the first to cross the finish line is the winner, without time compensation. In the J70 class the RCNP skipper María Bover leads with Balearia; In J80, Iser, from RCN de Valencia, wins, but there are still six rounds to compete; and in Dragon there is a tie with four points between Capa by Carlos Carbajal, first, and Yeahnah by Mr. Nova, second.
The third and penultimate day of PalmaVela will be held this Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m.
