Former Real Madrid player Gelabale suffers a stroke

The former Real Madrid player and former international with France Mickaël Gelabale, was the victim of a cerebral infarct as reported by his current team Elan Chalon. Gelabale suffered a stroke in training.

Gelabale, who will turn 40 on May 22, felt unwell at the end of training last Monday with Elan Chalon, a French second division club, where he has played since 2017 and is captain.

The player himself has explained the facts on the French club's website. "After the training session on Monday morning, I felt symptoms and they took me to the Chalon hospital emergency room. The MRI they did on me detected a stroke. Fortunately, caught in time, they treated me immediately and carried out additional tests in the intensive care unit," the player wrote.

"I'm already home, but I have to rest for several weeks before resuming my professional activity and I won't be able to be at the end of the season. I hope that this problem will be resolved little by little and that it will not rule out a return to the slopes when it allow me to do it," added Gelabale.

Mickael Gelabale played for Real Madrid and Valencia and won the ACB Mates Contest twice (2005 and 2006). He also played in the NBA with the Sonics (2006-08) and Minnesota Timberwolves (2012-13).

Real Madrid have published on their social networks a message of "encouragement and affection" to their former player Mickael Gelabale, who suffered a stroke last Monday and from whom he appears to have recovered.

"From Real Madrid C. F. we want to send a message of encouragement and affection to our dear Mickaël Gelabale. A lot of strength and our wish for a speedy recovery," wrote the Spanish club.
