Ancelotti: "It was difficult for us to be 100% motivated"

Just as in the preview of Real Madrid-Villarreal Carlo Ancelotti indicated that his team "would fight for the League until the mathematics condemn us", after the 2-3 defeat against the groguet team, the Italian coach avoided talking about whether the fight for the title is settled, 15 points as Real Madrid can be from the lead this Monday.

Regarding the defeat against Villarreal, Ancelotti argued that the fault lay in the lack of success to finish off: "We had the opportunity to get 3-1 and slow down a bit, but it couldn't have been. We didn't defend well. I could defend better."

The Italian coach showed that the mentality of his players in the League is not the same as in the Cup or the Champions League. "The truth is that it has been difficult for us to be 100% motivated, this is quite normal," he admitted, after leaving six starters in the 0-4 loss at the Camp Nou on the bench.

"Yes, it's normal not to be at 100% [being 12 points behind Barça in the League], but without being at 100% we had to be better on the pitch, they handled the ball well and it was difficult for us to recover it. We haven't hit the chances to make it 3-1 as we did in the last few games".

On the effects that this fifth defeat in the League could have on the Champions League match against Chelsea, Ancelotti was very explicit: "It leaves no doubt for the Champions League. We knew it could be complicated and it has happened. Wednesday is another story. Today the temperature has dropped a bit, but on Wednesday we will be at the top".

Lucas Vázquez pointed out at the end of the match: “It has been a difficult game, we have not been comfortable at any time. It has been difficult for us to take possession of the ball, we have lacked possession of the ball and created chances. And they turned the score around in the last stretch in two plays".

The midfielder used as a right back admitted his team's bad play. "We came from playing some very good games, but today we haven't been good, although it helps us put the chip back on Wednesday. We don't have to think about it too much and it doesn't happen again."

Vázquez admitted that "the League is complicated, it is obvious, but we are alive in two other competitions for which we are going to fight."
