Twenty cats are rescued after spending a decade trapped in a solar

A total of seventeen cats have been rescued at number 4 Miquel Villalonga de Son Oliva street in Palma de Mallorca. The kittens had been trapped between the four walls of a solar for more than a decade, where they have survived thanks to a man who brought them water and food.

According to animal organizations in the area, everyone knew that a colony of cats was trapped on the site. In 2012, the owner decided to replace a grill with large walls - impassable for cats - to prevent the proliferation of rats and cockroaches.

Carolina, a well-known local activist, declares that "during all this time the animals have had to live without shelter, with cold, high temperatures, all kinds of inclement weather and without protection", as reported by the Mallorcan newspaper Última Hora.

He adds that "this is a clear example of animal abuse that no neighbor dared to report" and that it was a woman who had recently arrived in the neighborhood who noticed the situation with the cats and asked for help. Before proceeding with the rescue operation, they contacted the promoter who had the walls built.

The person in charge assured that the lot had been sold years ago and that at the time the wall was erected he had no knowledge of the existence of the cat colony. After that, the Progreso en Verde group contacted the new promoter and she argued that she did not know the situation of the animals either.

The new owners authorized the organization in writing to access the site to rescue the cats. A total of seventeen cats have been found and are now safe in a shelter, receiving treatment and the corresponding care from veterinary staff.

"I don't even want to think about the suffering of these animals. The young were born and many died. All kinds of calamities have happened and the worst of all is that this agony has lasted more than a decade in time. Now, fortunately, this nightmare has ended", sentenced Carolina.
