Less heat and some rain: this is the Aemet weather forecast for the weekend

Spain breathes with relief after the first heat wave of the summer, which has left temperatures close to 45 degrees in some points in the south of the peninsula, thermometers of 30 degrees in many areas of the country and tropical nights. In some cases, torrid, with thermometers that did not drop below 25 degrees.

After the heat episode, there is a significant drop in temperatures and some rain, according to the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). This Friday the rains are concentrated in the north and east of the peninsula, with locally strong storms and hail especially in the northeast quadrant, while the maximum temperatures will drop in almost all of Spain.

The maximums will drop in almost the entire territory, more markedly in the northwestern third, although they can be "significantly high" in points of the southern half and center of the peninsula and also in the Canary archipelago. In Bilbao or San Sebastián, they will not exceed 21 degrees; in Jaén or Granada, they will reach 35.

Therefore, the weather this Friday will mark two well-differentiated Spains after the first heat wave of summer: almost 40 degrees in the south and around 20 in areas of the north of the peninsula.

During the weekend, temperatures will rise again, although such extreme values will not be reached. On Saturday there is a chance of a locally strong shower in the Balearic Islands or northern Galicia. There will also be cloudy skies or with cloudy intervals in eastern Catalonia and the Balearic Islands with showers in the early hours occasionally accompanied by storms, without ruling out that they reach locally strong in the north of the islands.

Regarding temperatures, the minimum will increase in the northwestern half of the peninsula and decrease in the rest, more pronounced in the Canary Islands. The maximums will recover, "even reaching notable in areas of the northern plateau, Iberian system and Cádiz." The Aemet anticipates that 35 degrees will be exceeded in large areas of the peninsular southwest quadrant.

For Sunday, the yellow warning will be activated due to high temperatures in Andalusia and Extremadura. According to the agency, there will be almost generalized increases, both in the maximum and in the minimum; reaching 35 degrees in the southwest quadrant and occasionally in the Ebro valley, even reaching 40 in the Guadalquivir and Guadiana valleys.

We will close the week with light rains in the eastern half of Cantabria and in eastern Catalonia, where cloudy intervals will also predominate.
