'Weekly Report', National Television Award 2023

The veteran information space Informe Semanal, from TVE, was awarded yesterday with the National Television Award, corresponding to the year 2023, at the proposal of the jury. The award, granted by the Ministry of Culture and Sport, is endowed with 30,000 euros.

As reported by Cultura, the jury unanimously recognized Informe Semanal, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, for "being a reference in its genre and its international projection, it also highlights the high quality of its content and professional teams, the introduction of new approaches and formats in television journalism, and the exposure of issues of general interest that have contributed to debate, social awareness and the defense of democratic values”.

The National Television Award recognizes the work in the television field highlighted through a work broadcast during 2022 or a particular contribution for its creativity. With this award, the ministry recognizes television "as an essential tool for the dissemination of culture", and also its link with the development and dissemination of cultural industries.

Informe Semanal was launched on March 31, 1973 and every Saturday, for the past five decades, it has reviewed international, national, social and cultural current events with reflection, context, analysis and careful production.

Pedro Erquicia received the task of starting the program in just one month. He set his sights on 60 Minutes on the American channel CBS with the aim of reporting in reportage format from all areas, although at the beginning few subjects of Spanish politics were covered.

Over the course of five decades, dozens of presenters have appeared, from José Antonio Silva, who was the first, at the head of the so-called Semanal Informativo for a year, until today, and has turned journalists such as Rosa María Mateo or Mari Carmen García Vela. Numerous personalities are part of the program's history, such as, in her day, Queen Letícia, who began her time at TVE presenting the program in the summer of 2000.
