Junts per Catalunya enters the campaign with a clear strategy of its objectives both in the 23-J and in the subsequent stage that it wants to play in Spain and Catalonia. The general secretary of the formation, Jordi Turull, yesterday underlined his commitment to bring to Madrid a new strategy that makes any pact subject to real commitment on two basic issues: the amnesty of all people with pending cases due to the process and the right of Catalonia to decide on its political future in a referendum. In this framework, the post-convergents work to become the haystack of independence in Catalonia. In other words, they are pursuing ERC's overtaking.
Turull made these reflections in the conference organized by Barcelona Tribuna, where he explained that the strategy followed by political Catalanism in the last decades in Madrid has not produced any results but has had the opposite effect.
The modernization process of Spain, its incorporation into the core of the EU, driven in part by Catalonia, has become an attempt to laminate "the foundations of the Catalan nation", he pointed out. According to Turull's analysis, what both the PSOE and the PP are now trying to do is "undo the national sentiment of Catalonia".
Political Catalanism, therefore, must give way to a new paradigm after "having tried everything". From Junts, an attempt is made to combat the message of the "useful vote" that is launched from the progressive sectors to prevent the triumph of the right by recalling the "systematic lamination of competences and rights" in Catalonia.
Turull mentioned the lack of investment, the initiatives against the Catalan school, immersion, Operation Catalunya, spying on political leaders, a runaway Prosecutor's Office, among other issues.
This appeal for a paradigm shift in politics in Congress was made at Barcelona Tribuna in a conference presented by Miquel Roca, president of the Economic Society of Friends of the Country - and who was for 18 years the spokesperson of the group of CiU in Madrid–, and attended by the majority of the training. There were, among others, Anna Erra, president of the Parliament; Laura Borràs, president of the training; Albert Batet, president of the group in Parliament, and former councilor Jaume Giró. Jordi Juan, director of La Vanguardia, and Antoni Cañete, president of Pimec, also attended.
Turull pointed out that in the strategy with the State it is no longer possible to separate the economic and social claim from the clear advances in the political field.
For this reason, and looking towards the path followed by ERC, he considered that the "uncritical support" does not give any results, referring to the dialogue table between the Spanish Government and the Generalitat. Not only has it not produced results, he stressed, but it has even given rise to "mockery" from the Executive.
Faced with the scenario that may arise on 23-J, JxCat is clear how it will assert its support in the event that its deputies are needed to form a majority - with amnesty and the holding of a referendum on independence yes or no as keys–. The survey published on Sunday by La Vanguardia gave the post-convergents between 8 and 9 seats and they could be decisive if the right and ultra-right do not get an absolute majority. In the meantime, the formation wants to advance on the Catalan stage to regain strength and position itself as the reference force for independence thinking about the next Catalan elections.
Turull laid out a road map for 23-J and the subsequent scenario of a clear commitment to overcome political Catalanism. In this sense, and when he was asked about PDECat's candidacy for the general elections, he considered that the merger is not possible, since there is no convergence in political approaches - apart from the material differences -. Some reflections that come after the bet and the good results of Xavier Trias on 28-M with a moderate speech.
And he reiterated the intention to make Junts reconfigure itself as an "alternative without being anyone's crutch". He was referring to the "difficult" decision to leave the Government. On the 23rd, J opens new scenarios also in a Catalan key.
