The television formats that refuse to die

With so much content on offer to be able to watch on a small screen, bringing back a well-known brand allows, at least on the day of its return, that a large part of the audience does not want to miss it. Out of nostalgia, interest or curiosity. Afterwards, its continuity will depend on multiple factors and success is not guaranteed. Alta tensión , for example, recently returned and did not achieve much success. Despite this, in this 2023, the return of well-known and successful formats of the past are being prepared for a new stage, either on traditional television or on streaming platforms.

Grand Prize

It is without a doubt one of the most anticipated returns due to its impact when it was broadcast on La 1 between 1995 and 2005. Ramón García was the presenter of the emblematic family contest during its eleven seasons on TVE and will be again also 18 years later accompanied this time by two co-presenters: the streamer Cristina López, better known as Cristinini, and the actress Michelle Calvó. The program, which will return this summer, will continue to feature two towns in Spain facing each other in each edition, ready to have fun and involve all families in their homes. Some of its most charismatic tests will be recovered, although RTVE has already announced that this stage will not feature the iconic cow.

There you!

Jesus Vázquez will also return to lead a program he presented years ago: ¡Allá tú! . The first stage of the "box competition" was broadcast on Telecinco between 2004 and 2008 and the second on Cuatro in 2011. The participants gather on a set where each one holds a box in their hands. The chosen one chooses and opens the boxes of his colleagues to learn about the prizes he will no longer be able to opt for until he is left alone with a box, the prize of which is the one he wins. Adaptation of the Deal or not deal format, the recent re-editions that have been carried out in countries such as France and Italy and the one currently being prepared by the United Kingdom, support the validity of the programme.

Password

Another competition that is preparing its return to television is Password, which Cuatro broadcast between 2008 and 2010. Now it jumps from Mediaset to Atresmedia, a group that has not yet decided whether it will broadcast the format on Antena 3 or La Sexta. The new stage of the contest, whose recordings have already begun, will be presented by Cristina Pedroche in place of Luján Argüelles, who was its host at Cuatro. Premiered in the sixties on American television, the contest has had several stages over the years. One of the last was in April 2022, when it was recovered by the NBC network in the United States by Jimmy Fallon.

Triumph operation

The most popular musical talent show in Spain will live a new stage now on a streaming platform. After eleven seasons broadcast since 2001 in two stages on RTVE and one on Telecinco, the program will return at the end of this 2023 after a three-year absence. Prime Video will broadcast its twelfth season, which will be presented by Chenoa and which will feature weekly 90-minute galas, daily programs with the news of the academy and 24-hour programming through YouTube. In addition to Chenoa, "triumph" of the first edition, Noemí Galera and Manu Guix will also resume their roles as director of the Academy and musical director, respectively, as well as vocal technique teacher Mamen Márquez and choreographer Vicky Gomez.

Takeshi's castle

In addition to Operación Triunfo, Prime Video is also bringing back the historic Japanese format El castillo de Takeshi, which on Telecinco was renamed Humor amarillo and which became a phenomenon between 1990 and 1995, especially among children and young people. In 2006, the contest returned for a short run on Cuatro. The original Japanese series featured 100 contestants trying to bring down Takeshi's impenetrable Castle by facing numerous outdoor challenges such as crossing a pond made of trampolines, navigating a maze filled with enemies, or surviving a suspension bridge while they were attacked by balls. The eight episodes of the Spanish version will premiere on July 10 and will feature the voices of Jorge Ponce, Eva Soriano and Dani Rovira.
