The Vázquez twins sat in the dock yesterday along with the other involved, Isaac Gil – the boyfriend of one of them – in the first session of the trial for the murder of Pedro Fernández, the partner of the other sister . Dolores, Pilar and Isaac are accused of murder with treachery and cruelty and face a sentence of 24 years in prison. In the case of Dolores, the Prosecutor's Office requests six more months in prison, as it applies an aggravating factor of kinship, because she was the girlfriend of the deceased. However, Dolores is the only one of the three who is not in prison after the Barcelona Court accepted her appeal in favor of letting her go free.
The crime took place in the morning of July 10, 2021 in a building in Sabadell. The material author was Isaac. He himself acknowledged it. However, the Mossos discovered months later that the crime had allegedly been orchestrated by the two sisters. "It is exactly the same who materially executes the death as long as the other people, in this case the sisters, collaborated in that plan by devising and executing it", warned the prosecutor to the members of the jury.
According to her indictment, on the night of the events, Dolores invited Pedro to spend the night at her house. Their romantic relationship was not going well, and although Pedro did not see it clearly and wanted to break up with her, he ended up accepting. While the man was sleeping relaxed in his underwear on the bed next to Dolores, the woman got up from the bed and opened the door. It was two in the morning. His sister, Pilar, and his brother-in-law, Isaac, appeared there. The man burst into the apartment and hit Pedro about twelve times with a goat's leg, a pointed tool like a crowbar. The plan that the twins and Isaac had come up with was to kill Pedro in the room, wrap him in a blanket and transport him to a forest. However, Pedro did not die on the spot, but managed to escape to the landing of the fourth floor and even went downstairs. There Isaac continued to beat him until he fell to the ground.
The blows, screams and commotion woke up some neighbors who surprised the material author with the corpse on the landing. Two residents also brought their mobile phones to the mirror and recorded the scene. They caught Isaac kicking Pedro's corpse and stomping on his chest to make sure he was dead. Then they also recorded the two twins cleaning up the river of blood that Pedro had left when he tried to run away. "The three defendants tried to clean the blood stains and organic remains produced by the assault in order to eliminate all traces of them, after having wrapped Pedro's inert body in a blanket and having the transferred to the interior of the Dorlores flat, at which time they were surprised by the police", explains the prosecutor in his letter. The appearance of these unexpected witnesses truncated the plans.
The neighbors alerted the Mossos, who in a matter of minutes arrived at the building and found Isaac covered in blood and the twins cleaning up the blood while Pedro's corpse was wrapped in a blanket. Isaac, at that first moment, confessed to the crime without involving the twins. But six months later, after analyzing the contents of the mobile phones, the sisters were arrested.
A lot of WhatsApp messages were found on the phones between the three involved in which they planned Pedro's crime bluntly and with extreme coldness. Pilar sent a message to her boyfriend, Isaac, in which they commented on the steps to follow to commit the crime. “Holi dear, I have been talking to my sister on the phone and she is fuming. We've been talking... because she can't take it anymore, and it's normal... about getting chloroform, honey, to put him to sleep and then... this. You know? Because he doesn't want it to happen this Friday. And I agree with that. In other words, if we manage to get her to fall asleep and we finish it off, then it's Friday night. I ask for my personal day. Do not worry. We'll continue talking later, I'll go shopping. Until then".
The defenses of the two twins only accept a crime of cover-up and ask for acquittal. Dolores' lawyer urged the jury to start "all from scratch" and not to be carried away by news reports. "We always feel that milk is white and in a bottle. But it can also be horchata", he suggested. The defendants testify today.
