The PP questions the agility of the distribution of the vote by mail

Yesterday, Alberto Núñez Feijóo asked postal workers that, "regardless of their bosses", "distribute all the votes before the deadline so that the Spanish" can vote and exercise "constitutional rights".

The leader of the PP, who assured that the workers do not have enough resources to do the job, added that he promised "that, if they are not paid overtime, in the first Council of Ministers I will pay overtime to all postmen of Spain to fulfill their duty, to all", he assured.

Feijóo made these statements at an event held in Murcia, together with former president José María Aznar and the candidate to re-preside over the region, Fernando López Miras.

Hours later, Correos made public a note in which it remembers who was its former president – Feijóo led the company during the presidency of José María Aznar – who formalized 19,400 reinforcement hirings for "the correct development of the activities related to postal voting for general elections”. In addition, he points out that the company has budgeted "the payment of extra hours to professionals". "From May 30 - adds the note from the company - all the necessary measures have been taken and will be taken to guarantee voting by mail".

For days, and always from the conservative side, the performance of Correos before the great demand for votes caused by the fact that the elections are held during the holiday period has been called into question.

When general elections were called for July 23, many citizens already had their holidays planned. The alternative is voting by mail, the number of requests for which now exceeds 2,361,982, a record.

The municipal elections were held on May 28, in which 984,108 citizens requested to vote by mail. The figure for the 23-J generals is, therefore, double the requests issued in the previous elections.

The 2,361,982 people who have claimed to vote by mail represent 6.3% of the total census, a figure that had never been seen before. With respect to the last general elections - in November 2019 -, the increase is more than 1,364,452 requests, with a difference of more than 136%.

Today is the last day to request a vote by mail and, according to Correos, not even half of the votes have been distributed yet - nearly 1,400,000 are missing - just a week before the deadline ends to vote by mail. Last night, the company announced that it will open all its offices until 10pm and also this weekend due to the massive requests to vote.

The precedent of the municipal elections of May 28, when it was discovered the existence of at least two groups, one in Melilla and another in Granada, which were dedicated to buying the vote by mail, has become a incentive for those who encourage the theory that the company does not do the job well.

On Wednesday, the deputy of the PP Pedro Rollán alluded to "the complaints of several unions of Correos that the human resources are not increased in time and form to be able to respond to the large number of requests" to vote for mail There is no evidence that any union has denounced the situation that the company categorically denies in the statement.

From the Government, the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, assured that Feijóo is an "ultra in lamb's clothing" because only the ultras "are able to question a system as guaranteed as the Spanish electoral system" and the vote by mail . "He is a person with whom we must be careful, because he has no limit, enough is enough of nonsense, lies and casting doubt on voting by mail," added the minister.

For his part, the secretary of organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, accused Feijóo of elaborating "conspiracy theories".
