The opposition accuses the mayor of Valencia of "giving in" to Vox to "distribute chairs"

The opposition in the Valencia City Council has accused Mayor María José Catalá of "giving in" to Vox's requests. At the doors of the Crystal Hall, where Catalá and the rest of the new government team had appeared minutes before, socialist spokesperson Sandra Gómez has assured that today's agreement is "a triumph" for Vox and that the mayor "has had have to swallow his words."

Gómez, who has criticized not being able to appear in the Crystal Hall - "it is the way they govern, they believe that the City Council is theirs" - has pointed out that the far right has only needed a mockery and to put pressure on them with the Valencia Club of football to roll out the red carpet for them.

Sandra Gómez has said that Catalá "had an alternative" and did not need to "go through Vox's hoop", and has made reference to the "hand extended" a few days ago by the PSPV to agree on the appointment of the new manager of the public company AUMSA. Likewise, Catalá has questioned the delegations that Catalá has granted to Vox, which will take over Parks and Gardens and also Family or Festivals and Traditions. "They have given in to a demand that the ultra-right has never hidden: applying denialist policies in Valencia," Gómez lamented.

For his part, the spokesperson for Compromís and former mayor of València, Joan Ribó, has described the agreement as a "pacte de l'embolat", he said, both because of Vox's bullfighting fans and because the agreement "is a terrible pact" for the city. Ribó has been "concerned" that Vox assumes 'green' delegations, since "they do not believe in what all the scientists say, climate change, and they underestimate many aspects", especially in the context of the celebration of the green capital. European championship that Valencia will hold in 2024.

On the other hand, Ribó has pointed to the example of Burriana, where Vox proposed censoring youth publications. "In Valencia we are very plural, not all of us go to mass, not all of us are religious, so we will demand that different behaviors such as LGTBI rights be respected," she concluded.
