The new chief prosecutor of Barcelona promises to look after "the most vulnerable"

The new chief prosecutor of Barcelona, Neus Pujal, has taken office in an act presided over by the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, which was also attended by representatives of the Prosecutor's Office, the judiciary, the Government and all the police forces. In her speech as the new head of the provincial prosecutor's office, Pujal has promised that the Barcelona Prosecutor's Office will be "a reference in defense of the most vulnerable". “I promise to strengthen the role of the prosecutor as the main defender of the victims. The fight for respect for the dignity of the human being must be the central axis of our mission", she added.

During the highly emotional event, Pujal was sponsored by two of her most valued colleagues, prosecutors Carlos Jiménez Villarejo and Emeralda Rasillo, whom she thanked for having transmitted "a proactive, committed, and vocational prosecutor model." The new chief prosecutor of Barcelona begins a new stage at the head of the institution after succeeding Concepción Talón in office, whose mandate was marked by the tensions of the sovereignist process. In this new period, Pujal has shown her intention to maintain and improve relations with the Ministry of Justice of the Generalitat. ""In the Barcelona Prosecutor's Office and in particular in me you will always find an outstretched hand, dialogue and good disposition. Only by investing in the administration of Justice will we be able to achieve quality justice".

Also at the presidential table were the Superior Prosecutor of Catalonia, Francisco Bañeres, and the President of the Social Chamber of the TSJC, Andreu Enfedaque, and attended by the Minister of Justice, Rights and Memory of the Generalitat, Gemma Ubasart; the Deputy Mayor for Security, Albert Batlle, and commanders of all the police forces in Catalonia. The State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, has praised Pujal's "conciliatory, dialogue-oriented nature" and her career, having gone through the jurisdictions for minors and litigation and the Civil Registry, with more than 10 years as head of the Prosecutor's Office in Sabadell (Barcelona) and with the last stage in the TSJC Prosecutor's Office. García Ortiz has highlighted the Barcelona Prosecutor's Office as a pioneer, "without any doubt the most or one of the most important in Spain", with 178 prosecutors and a benchmark in organization, structure and values. "We need the spirit of the Barcelona prosecutor's office in the Spanish prosecutor's office," he praised.
