The Government demands the conviction of Feijóo: “Attacking against parties is attacking democracy”

“More than mobilizations, they are attacks on the headquarters of the political parties,” the acting Government spokesperson, the socialist Isabel Rodríguez, has warned about the protests that the extreme right is calling every night in front of Ferraz and other PSOE headquarters throughout Spain. . “Attacking political parties is attacking democracy,” denounced the minister spokesperson.

“For those who are full of talk about the Constitution, it is the Spanish Constitution that grants a fundamental role to political parties in democracy,” said Isabel Rodríguez. “Therefore, attacking political parties is attacking democracy,” she stressed.

The Government spokesperson has immediately focused, in any case, on the position of the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, for not condemning these ultra protests. “The attitude of the main opposition party would have to be very different,” she reproached. “Feijóo should be condemning, emphatically, this attack on a political party. "He strongly condemns the attacks on the PSOE headquarters," she stated.

Feijóo and the entire PP, he insisted, would have to express their rejection of “the slogans and symbols that were used in these demonstrations”, where they have heard cheers for Franco, and insults against Pedro Sánchez, Felipe VI and the Constitution. "Of course, we ask the main opposition party and the person who leads it today, Feijóo, to accept once and for all the rules of democracy, and to accept the result of the last elections of July 23," he stressed. Isabel Rodríguez.

In this regard, the spokesperson minister did not want to miss the opportunity to demonstrate, on behalf of the Government, “the respect that we always deserve for the work of the State security bodies and forces, which always act under the parameters of proportionality to guarantee the safety of all, using in each case the response they deem appropriate regarding that proportionality.”

The spokesperson for the acting Executive, on the other hand, did not want to make any assessment regarding the decision of Judge Manuel García Castellón to open an investigation just now against the former president Carles Puigdemont and the general secretary of ERC, Marta Rovira, among others, for a possible crime of terrorism in the Tsunami Democràtic case. Or whether this judicial decision can interfere in the negotiations for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez, in which the PSOE and Junts are still immersed. “From this table, I should not express a political opinion on judicial decisions,” she alleged.

Isabel Rodríguez, however, has assured that “the facts are there for analysis,” and recalled that the judge has been investigating this case for four years, in addition to the fact that the Prosecutor's Office has “different criteria” than those of García Castellón.

The minister spokesperson, on the other hand, has criticized the statement issued by the conservative sector of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) against the amnesty for those prosecuted by the process, which the PSOE and Junts continue to negotiate. “The ruling of the governing body of the judges is still unprecedented,” she warned, speaking “about a rule that does not exist, of which they are unaware of its content.” Isabel Rodríguez has regretted that this body has not acted “with the same speed on her expired mandate in the last five years.” “A totally anomalous situation,” she criticized, for which she once again blamed the PP blockade.

For now, the organization secretary of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, has signed a statement that he sent today to all the socialist federations in which he orders them to suspend all activities at their headquarters in the afternoons. “In view of the calls for rallies in front of the PSOE headquarters that are happening these days, and due to the aggressive spirit of their calls,” Cerdán justified in his letter to all the socialist federations.

The PSOE leadership has thus asked all organization secretaries and regional, provincial and island training managers to follow this criterion of recommending suspending their activities during the afternoon at the headquarters, “whether they are gatherings or work meetings.” And that the workers at these offices and houses in the town end the in-person work day in the early hours of the afternoon, in the face of the ultra protests that are being called at night. “These considerations are preventive and we trust they will soon be unnecessary, but we will remain vigilant,” Cerdán stated in the letter, prioritizing “personal security and at the headquarters” of the PSOE.
