The Generalitat extends the state of exceptionality due to drought to seven more areas

The Generalitat has decided to extend the state of exceptionality due to drought to seven more areas of the internal basins, as announced by the Government at the press conference after the Consell Executiu on Tuesday.

The areas included in the prevention plan are Anoia-Gaià, the head of the Ter, the Darnius Boadella reservoir, the Empordà, the Llobregat Mitjà, Prades Llaberia and the Cordillera Transversal. This means that of the 630 municipalities in that area, almost 500 are already exceptional. Among them, Vic, Figueres, Berga and Olot.

The director of l'Agència Catalana de l'Aigua (ACA), Samuel Reyes, has affirmed that the rains of this long weekend have been "positive, but still insufficient", due to the little impact they have had on the reserves of water.

"We would need the entire month of May to be this way to get out of this exceptionality and for all the municipalities that are not connected to supra-municipal networks and that depend on aquifers to benefit," he added.
