The controversy over the presence of Aliança Catalana leads the ANC to stop holding events with parties

The national secretariat of the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) has decided this Saturday not to organize events with political parties or candidates upon detecting a "risk of instrumentalization" of the organization and to prevent the debate from being "deviated" towards issues that are not the independence.

This was reported by this pro-independence entity after the territorial assembly of Sabadell (Barcelona) prepared a cycle of debates with the presence of the far-right group Aliança Catalana, an event from which the national secretariat had distanced itself, which requested that suspended.

In a plenary session held in Reus (Tarragona) - the last of the mandate -, the national secretariat has reaffirmed its defense of "all human rights, such as self-determination and linguistic and cultural rights, as well as against racism and xenophobia".

At the same time, it has asked the national secretaries and the officials of the assemblies to refrain "from supporting specific electoral candidacies", although it has not reported that it has taken measures against the organizers of the event in Sabadell.

The ANC is immersed in an internal electoral process after the current leadership, chaired by Dolors Feliu, suffered a setback when its proposal for a pro-independence "civic list" for the next Catalan elections on May 12 was rejected by a majority of members. .

The voting for the candidates for the national secretariat, among whom is the singer-songwriter Lluís Llach, will be held between May 14 and 18; on May 23 the results will be announced; and two days later the constituent act of the new management will be held in Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona).
