Residents of La Ribera ask Collboni for protection against "false occupations"

Residents of a block of flats in the neighborhood of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera - who a few days ago reported on these same pages that months ago a few people forcibly settled in one of the houses with the aim to make life miserable for them so that they leave the farm as soon as possible – they are now asking the mayor Jaume Collboni for help and protection, they have just written him a letter in which they explain all the pain they are suffering.

"The situation worsened in recent days - say some of the tenants of number 16 Giralt el Pellisser street, in this block located next to the Santa Caterina market-. More and more strangers come up and down the stairs at any hour, trying at every moment to provoke us, probably because we confront them, so that the situation becomes violent... So we write to the mayor to give us a hand, to help us".

Neighbors add that it was actually the new owners of the property who sent these alleged squatters. "Apparently, they want or wanted to set up tourist apartments. One of the squatters told us. What happens is that for now it is not clear who is speaking on behalf of the property. It's a very stressful situation that we've been dragging on for months, which is making our lives miserable."

"Those who bought the farm say they no longer have anything to do with it. We got a call from a supposed mediator who said she was speaking on behalf of some investors who had already signed contracts and everything, but now our lawyer can't speak to them... And meanwhile, the occupations are getting out of control. The other day one of them tried to enter one of the uninhabited houses through the shutter. We don't know if they don't get along with the owners now, or if what they want is to settle in more flats".

As the neighbors told La Vanguardia recently, the property was sold in April, and then the new owners told them that the best thing they could do was to leave, that they would soon start the renovation work on the building , that perhaps they would offer them some compensation... Some left. And then, the City Council suspended the works for lack of permits. The work left a few cracks.

"Shortly after the suspension of the works, the false occupations arrived. They threw water down the floor up to three times so that my flat was flooded!". The Barcelona Fire Department themselves noted these signs of mobbing in a recent report. The truth is that, in recent months, both the Fire Brigade and the Urban Guard went to the estate a few times. In the end, the neighbors installed a surveillance camera on the landing. "And we ask the mayor what we can do." Municipal sources point out that the City Council is following the case very closely and will take the appropriate actions.
