There are plenty of arguments for Carles Puigdemont to touch Pedro Sánchez's face on account of the constitution of the Table of Congress. Also not to. For the moment, that the final decision of Junts is going to arrive on the definitively fixed bell, regardless of what the final resolution is, a reality that, although known, was not yet assumed in its entirety and meaning: without Puigdemont raising his thumb in the direction of the Heaven, the XV legislature will be nothing more than an early abortion.
The former president of the Generalitat has disconnected in his last written appearance on X (formerly Twitter) the constitution of the Bureau of Congress from the investiture. It is not a minor note. The Socialists receive a clear message in the event of definitively crashing into the Junts negotiating wall in this first assault. If the PSOE loses control of Congress, Sánchez will warn by the facts that Puigdemont is not going to bluff. A decision in this sense would not be equivalent to kicking the board, but rather a severe warning that things have changed. Like starting a soccer game with a tackle at your opponent's ankle to show them what to expect for the next 90 minutes.
Where some see a majority of the left that guarantees to prevent the passage of a conservative government (now without Vox in the equation, after its resignation from the demand to be part of a popular executive theorist), Puigdemont contemplates only the State. For the leader of Junts, while the right drives him to sovereignty without caring that the battered body is made into foxes, the left does it with wet towels to hide the blows. But the end result is the same.
Hence, the pressures on him, carried out following the dictates of the classic manual of politics, are sterile. What he is facing is a State, not the constitution of a future government. Hence his conditions and also his demand for guaranteed payment and, whenever possible, in advance.
With Junts among the ingredients of the necessary dressing, Pedro Sánchez is no longer served by the candies distributed in the name of the most progressive government in history. The XV legislature will be that of the reform of the territorial architecture of the State or it will not be. Saying no to the PSOE in its attempt to control the Congress Table would be equivalent to making things clear from the beginning. Facts. Turn into something tangible what until now have been nothing more than declarations.
Of course, there are also arguments for Puigdemont to finally act in the opposite direction. Only it seems difficult that before the vote to constitute the Table of Congress those "verifiable facts before committing any vote" that he has demanded via social networks can take shape. If Junts gives in, it will only be because it has reached the conclusion that at this minute of the game it is convenient for them to show good will and a negotiating attitude.
Announcing, as Pedro Sánchez did at the last minute, that he will promote the use of the co-official languages in the European institutions, taking advantage of the semester of the Spanish presidency, does not respond to the logic of the "verifiable fact" that Carles Puigdemont demands, but rather to a declaration of intent of those that make the ex-president so embarrassing, who has, in his own words, "no confidence in the Spanish political parties."
In ten months there will be elections to the European Parliament. They are, it should not be forgotten, the elections in which Puigdemont will be examined again in first person before his voters. Too close to practice according to what strategic pirouettes that compromise their way of understanding political coherence. In these future elections, which usually pass without pain or glory when they do not coincide with the municipal ones, there is also a clue to understand what we are going to experience in the coming months regardless of the color of the Congress Table.
