PP and Vox break the negotiation in Palma and the 'popular' will govern alone

PP and Vox have broken negotiations in Palma and Jaime Martínez, of the PP, will be elected mayor of the city as he is the list with the most votes. The Vox candidate, Fulgencio Coll, announced this Thursday that he will not support the election of Martínez after several meetings in which the "populares" have been inflexible before Vox's entry into the municipal government. The PP has 11 councilors out of the 15 that make up the absolute majority, while Vox has 6 councilors in the Balearic capital.

Coll regretted that the agreement was not possible and believes that the Palma government was born weak. The Vox candidate has indicated that an agreement was possible, as has been demonstrated in other important municipalities on the island where the PP was not the list with the most votes and PP-Vox pacts have been necessary to evict the left. Calvià and Llucmajor are two examples.

The decision of the PP not to incorporate Vox into the government of Palma may be a preview of how the negotiations will go to close an agreement in the Balearic Government. The PP obtained 26 deputies, but it needs at least one abstention from Vox to be able to be sworn in as president. The agreement between these two formations is stalled since Vox demands to enter the Balearic Government, but the PP resists.

The popular candidate, Marga Prohens, has so far been inflexible about the entry of Vox representatives into the Executive and they point to Murcia as an example of what can happen if Vox does not agree to invest Prohens with an abstention. The PP is willing to give up one of the positions on the Parliamentary Table, but completely rules out that it is the presidency.

Santiago Abascal's party has sent a negotiator to Palma to try to maintain a tough position, but PP sources say they are even willing to go to early elections if necessary. PP and Vox have only held a formal meeting that was closed without an agreement due to the blunt position of both parties. It is expected that between today and tomorrow they can close an agreement.

Given the doubts that have arisen, the PP has requested that the investiture session of the Balearic Parliament, scheduled for Tuesday the 20th, not be called for now. The deadline for the constitution is the 27th of this month.
