PNV and Bildu tie at 27 seats but Pradales will be able to govern with the PSE

EH Bildu has achieved a historic result tonight by achieving a tie in seats, but not in votes, with the PNV, which, however, will not prevent the jeltzale candidate, Imanol Pradales, from winning the lehendakaritza through an agreement with the PSE-EE of Eneko Andueza that both nationalists and socialists had already advanced during the electoral campaign.

With more than 98.5% of the vote counted, the nationalists took victory in votes by achieving 35.2% of the votes and 27 deputies, results that represent a serious corrective for the PNV since they represent the loss of up to four seats compared to the 2020 elections.

Despite this, Pradales will be able to govern with peace of mind with the PSE, thanks to the twelve seats won by Eneko Andueza's party, which improves its result by two deputies compared to the last elections. PNV and PSE have 39 deputies, one more than the absolute majority in the Basque Parliament of 38, so the new Lehendakari will not need the help of other groups, probably one of the biggest concerns of the Jeltzales during the electoral campaign.

EH Bildu will have to wait his turn to govern but he has obtained great support. And the fact is that Pello Otxandiano's formation far breaks its electoral ceiling and with 27 deputies, six more than those obtained in 2020, it is tied for seats with the PNV, although it is a little less than three points away in terms of votes (32.4% ) compared to its rivals.

After the PSE-EE (14.2%) is the PP of Javier de Andrés which, with 9.2% of the votes, manages to add one more seat to those it obtained in 2020.

Special mention deserves Sumar, from Alba García, who, with 3.4% of the votes, will be left with only one deputy in the Basque Parliament, when Elkarrekin Podemos obtained six in the last regional elections. This space has paid dearly for the internal division since Podemos, led by Miren Gorrotxategi, with 2.25%, is left out of the chamber.

The formation that will remain in the Basque Parliament, with even fewer votes than Podemos (2%), will be the far-right Vox of Amaia Martínez, thanks to surpassing the threshold in Álava, the least populated province and where seats are cheaper. of 3%.

By province, EH Bildu has achieved a clear victory in Gipuzkoa by more than eight points and in Álava, where it has won by just over two points. An advantage that the PNV has compensated with a great victory in Bizkaia, its impregnable fiefdom, by just over 10 points.

It should be noted that each of the three Basque provinces elects 25 of the 75 deputies of the Basque Parliament despite their demographic asymmetry, since only 261,623 people can vote in Álava, compared to 945,878 in Bizcaia and 587,711 in Gipuzkoa.
