José Antonio Pardines Arcay, a Malpica traffic civil guard, was shot dead on the N-I highway near Villabona (Guipúzcoa).
It was the unpremeditated attack by two young ETA militants. The author of the shots, Javier "Txabi" Etxebarrieta, would be shot hours later.
Pardines would be considered for a long time the first fatality of ETA.
Disarmed in April 2017, on May 3, 2018, it announced its dissolution. The terrorist band claimed in its sixty years of history, between 1968 and 2018, close to nine hundred fatalities, including twenty-two children.
