Lleida opts for Junts in 12-M and the PSC passes ahead of Esquerra

Lleida has once again opted in the Catalan elections, as in 2017 and 2021, for Junts, which obtained 5 of the 15 deputies at stake in this province. The list headed by the mayor of Isona i Conca Dellà, Jeannine Abella, has maintained the five deputies it had on an election day in which Óscar Ordeig's PSC, with four deputies, one more than in the previous elections, has placed as the second party with the most votes, passing ahead of ERC, which has obtained three deputies. Republican Marta Vilalta's list has been the big loser of the day, with two seats and the loss of more than 10 points.

For their part, the popular party of Lleida returns to the Parliament as the fourth most voted party with the deputy Montse Berenquer. VOX retains the seat, in these elections for the lawyer Rafael Villafranca, and enters Lleida Aliança Catalana with the seat of Ramon Abad, a retired banking professional and resident of Alpicat who is making his debut in politics. On the other hand, the CUP, led by Bernat Lavaquiol, spokesperson for his party in the La Seu d'Urgell City Council, has been left out of the chamber and remains without Comuns Sumar representation.

As usually happens on election nights, the map of Aran is painted red again, by those loyal to Unitat d'Aran, the socialist party of the region twinned with the PSC. Of the nine municipalities, the socialists have won in eight and in Bausen ERC has won. The Popular Party has been the second most voted force, almost tripling the votes. Alta Ribagorça has also voted socialist, while the rest of the regions have opted for Abella's list, which together in the province has taken 30% of the votes.

In the city of Lleida, where in the last municipal elections the PSC took the municipal government from the Republicans, this Sunday the Socialists won again with one in every four votes cast, followed by Junts and the Popular Party, formations that have gained support unlike CKD.

In Balaguer, another capital of the socialist region, on the other hand, Junts has gone ahead of the PSC, a situation that has been repeated in Cervera.

Aliança Catalana, has positioned itself as a second force in some municipalities of the province, among them Bellvís, Cabanabona, Nalec, Navès, Ribera d'Ondara and Tiurana.

From Junts, the winner of the day in Lleida, Jeannine Abella, congratulated the socialist Salvador Illa for the results before celebrating his results. “We have won more than 5,000 votes, we have won practically all the municipalities and we are very happy to have achieved 5 deputies,” she said.

The socialist deputy and candidate, Óscar Ordeig, the first to assess the results of Lleida, has insisted that "since 2003, the PSC did not have four deputies for Lleida", of whom he said that "they will be key for Salvador Illa to be able to to be president of the Generalitat and so that there can be a progressive majority in Catalonia.”

Óscar Ordeig has also regretted the emergence of a new far-right party in the chamber.

For her part, Republican Marta Vilalta has recognized that “the results speak for themselves.” “From ERC, we have to accept these bad results, which are not what we would have wanted, for which we have worked and which we believe are probably unfair from our point of view,” she said. “We accept this message from the electorate, things have gone badly in the country and in Lleida we have lost two seats, we have gone from second to third position,” she added.

Participation was 56.4%, 4.5% more than three years ago.
