"It's impossible not to be ridiculous"

Since 2018, the gears of the comedy duo Pantomima Full have not stopped turning to arrive on Friday, the day chosen for Rober Bodegas and Alberto Casado - with the occasional collaboration of guests of honor - to launch a new short video with which to portray some of the ridiculous that we all carry inside. In their sixth season, the two comedians continue to turn into comedy those little things that some people enjoy and others are ashamed of.

They comment on the success of their piece on voice messages: "We're not the most excited about video, but everyone receives or sends audio. You know that it gives a lot for the girl, for the 'look, Luis, it's you'". One of his hits is the video of the conformist couple, who reluctantly accept the mediocrity of life, real estate, feelings and work: "We were amused by the cruelty and how decadent it was", says Casado, but, in the words of Bodegas, " to expect that repercussion would have been very pretentious. We thought it would be like the videos in which they tell us 'what son of a bitch'. But all the media took out their column and, after 3 or 4 days, they published very deep, philosophical, sociological things... You're funny that it generates all this".

His inspiration always comes "from the environment: close people, social networks, media... Trying to capture common behaviors", says Casado. Bodegas adds: “Sometimes, you hear a certain word or concept more than normal. The word crossfit, or two years ago, after the summer, you thought 'why do I open Instagram and all I see are camper vans?'". But they reject what Casado calls "the most literal current affairs, the news of the week, Ana Obregón, for example. We do not like this and it is not the idea of the channel. The videos would get old very quickly."

Pantomime reflects many personal miseries because, in the words of Bodegas, “it is impossible not to be ridiculous in some way. Not that everything is bad, but we all have something ridiculous. For example: for Easter, you go on a trip and you look like a tourist and do things that, seen from the outside, would deflate you. And here I am, standing in an absurd queue to enter a monument that doesn't really interest me either." "We all fall into that ridiculousness - confirms his colleague - and it's funny to see."

Despite the fact that society seems to have thinner and thinner skin and social networks are increasingly toxic, they are of the opinion that, as Casado says, "now it is easier to make humor because there is more access. You used to depend on the media; today, with a mobile phone and a good joke, you go far. Many more people receive it. Before, on TV, your two friends laughed and that was it. But you didn't have to face so many haters or waves of anything."

Regarding the wide range of stand-up rooms, Bodegas states that “what is there is a scene. It wasn't like that before: the one there was much smaller. When I started 20 years ago, I went ahead even being bad because there were no good ones, there were only about 50 of us in all of Spain". For Casado, the comedy "has more and more audiences! Theaters, bars and halls are filled with people who have only recently been there". And Bodegas concludes: "On any given Saturday, the amount of tickets that are sold! All over Spain, but especially in Barcelona and Madrid. It's nice to see people with new ideas."
