Elon Musk creates the company X.AI to develop artificial intelligence

Entrepreneur Elon Musk, who always presents himself as the technological vanguard, surprised a few days ago with a letter signed by him and 1,800 other people requesting a pause in artificial intelligence research . There were many of those signatories who were stunned when they saw themselves in that traffic, because their rubrics had been falsified or had been used without their knowledge.

Musk is one of the founders of the company OpenAI, which developed the ubiquitous tool ChatGPT, although he left its board three years ago.

Many were surprised that someone with such drive asked to put the brakes on it. The excitement has gone even further.

Just two weeks after that letter it is known that Musk, owner of Tesla, Space X or Twitter (now X Corp), among other companies, has created a new company dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence. It has been called X.AI, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. He made the registration in March, before the pause request was published. The leadership of the project is assumed by Musk himself, who has Jared Birchall, ex-Morgan Stanley and director of the entrepreneur's family office, as secretary.

The speed with which it is moving causes more than one to frown, as it contrasts with Musk's initiative to put a stop to this matter because he considers AI systems to pose a threat. He also criticized OpenAI, after gaining Microsoft's participation, for an alleged lack of transparency and for being too focused on a commercial mindset.

In his eagerness to get a foothold in this business, he has already started recruiting artificial intelligence researchers and engineers, as well as talking to numerous investors. "A lot of people are investing in this, which is real and exciting," he assured in statements to the Financial Times.

This move, which joins giants like Microsoft, Google and Amazon, as well as startups like OpenAI, demonstrates a quick turnaround in the direction of their businesses, or simply proves that the card was an ace that was drawn of the sleeve to gain time, according to some specialists in the sector.

In a preview of statements that Fox will issue next week, Musk claims that AI "is more dangerous than the bad design of an airplane or the bad production of cars", areas in which he has experience. "It has the power to destroy civilization", he adds.

In his new project, thousands of GPU processors (made up of many smaller and specialized cores) from the company Nvidia, a key piece for the development of AI, have already been guaranteed.

GPUs are the high-end chips needed for the purpose of building an extensive language model, AI systems capable of ingesting large amounts of content and producing human-like writing or realistic, computer-like images. ChatGPT technology. Musk was asked in an interview on Twitter about this acquisition. In his response he said nothing about his plans to start the AI company. "Looks like even the dogs are buying GPUs right now," he retorted.
