Elected again a polling station in Zaragoza after excusing 15 of its 16 members

For the first time in its history, the Zaragoza City Council had to designate the members of a polling station again in an extraordinary municipal plenary session after 15 of the 16 members elected in the first instance on May 2 have been excused for different reasons. (the remaining one also tried, but their request was denied).

Specifically, it is table 9-A of district 12, which corresponds to the CEIP Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer electoral college in the rural neighborhood of Garrapinillos (Zaragoza), in whose census there are 546 registered voters.

"It is an extraordinary plenary session in every way, because this incident had never occurred," said the head of the organization service of the Zaragoza City Council, Carmen Corral, on Monday. She also clarified that 15 have finally been chosen because the doctor has ruled that one of the members who had requested to be excused will finally have to go.

The vice mayor Sara Fernández has been in charge of presiding over today's plenary session in which the composition of the new table has been raffled, among which are the president (1 holder and 2 substitutes), the members (2), their substitutes (4) and reserves (7).

The draw, which only lasted a few seconds, elicited some banter among the assembled staff. "Congratulations to the winners," said the deputy mayor before adjourning the session.

It is expected that today the Local Police will notify those chosen of their designation. In the event that they also want to be excused, the deadline to present their appeal to the electoral board expires on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

As stated in the regulations, the reasons for avoiding having to appear at a polling station are varied, and include professional, age or health reasons.

Corral pointed out that, in general, this table tends to have many excuses when composing its formation by the profession of its constituents, given the proximity of this rural neighborhood with the military installations of the air base. Even so, the specific causes for which these 15 people have been excused are only known by the electoral board of the area.
