Consensus and Regeneration asks that the PP and the PSOE “dialogue” with a view to the investiture

The Consensus and Regeneration platform has published, after the inauguration of the king's round of consultations with the parties, a manifesto in which it asks the Popular Party and the PSOE to "recover political cordiality" and open a process of dialogue with a view to the investment. In this document, the group urges both political forces to "understand each other" so that they can "agree on fundamental policies in the interest of all Spaniards" and the country is not subjected to greater "institutional stress."

The promoters of the petition have shared that both parties should "take advantage of the current process of government formation" to forge agreements. The political association considers it "contradictory" that the governability of Spain depends on the votes of a "fugitive from justice" and on "radical or pro-independence" options when the general elections of 23-J "reinforced bipartisanship" in the country , since the PP and the PSOE grew in votes and seats, while "the extremist and nationalist parties" lost the same.

The group has called for collaboration between the two "biggest parties" and that the "trends of the past political cycle" that have increased polarization and have "deteriorated Spanish democracy" be left behind. Likewise, the members of Consensus and Regeneration have assessed that certain reforms and State policies that require cross-cutting consensus cannot continue to be delayed.

Among the signatories of the manifesto are personalities from different professional fields and different political sensitivities, such as the founders of Ciudadanos Francesc de Carreras and Félix Ovejero, socialists such as former MEP Pedro Bofill or former Defense Minister Eduardo Serra. Similarly, there are people linked to the PP, such as the architect Paloma Sobrini or the former president of the Catalan Civil Society Fernando Sánchez Costa.

The Consensus and Regeneration platform defines itself as an "independent and transversal network made up of people who defend the Constitution." It was created in 2021 at the initiative of the Joan Boscà Foundation by former officials of the PSOE, PP, Ciudadanos (CS) and the now extinct Unión, Progreso y Democracia (UPyD), as well as writers, journalists, businessmen and jurists and currently has 54 signers.
