Condemned a jihadist cell with Russian targets in Barcelona

The National Court has sentenced to terms of eight and ten years in prison the four members of a jihadist terrorist cell established in Barcelona and dismantled in 2019, which had selected Russian targets to attack in the Catalan capital.

Condemned a jihadist cell with Russian targets in Barcelona

The National Court has sentenced to terms of eight and ten years in prison the four members of a jihadist terrorist cell established in Barcelona and dismantled in 2019, which had selected Russian targets to attack in the Catalan capital.

The magistrates of the second section of the Criminal Chamber sentenced Rabah Hadjeras, alias Rabeh, to ten years in prison for the crime of promoting and directing a terrorist group, and to eight years, Omar Negazzi, alias Brahim; Hatab Samir, alias Miami, and Lyes Arfa, alias Sourfian, for integration in a terrorist organization. On the contrary, the court acquits Younas el-Morabit and Hichem Hamouche of the crimes of active collaboration with a terrorist group.

The sentence considers it proven that "this cell was ready to act in Barcelona" and that "they had trained in the manufacture of explosives, in the handling of another type of weapons and had begun the process of providing -se of the necessary armament".

The cell was in contact with the Islamic State in the Near East and had already marked some of its possible targets in Barcelona, ​​especially Russian interests, such as yachts of tycoons moored in the port of the Catalan capital.
