Catalá achieves 131 homes for affordable rental with a law that the PP took to the Constitutional Court

The mayor of València, María José Catalá, wanted to celebrate her first 100 days as head of the Mayor's Office with a visit to the Safranar neighborhood where the City Council has purchased 131 homes that she hopes to rent at affordable prices for young people and people over 65 years of age. .

Since his inauguration, Catalá has made housing one of the objectives of his mandate and yesterday he took advantage of the visit to the homes - which are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of next year - to compare his management with that of the former local government: "In our city there was a way of governing that in 8 years was only able to build 14 homes and now there is another that in the first 100 days has already carried out all the procedures to rent 131 homes."

However, these homes do not come out of nowhere. In fact, the council has acquired them - at a cost of 20,884,564 euros - through the right of first refusal that was approved thanks to a law from the Botànic (the left-wing Government formed by PSPV, Compromís and Unides Podem) and that the PP tried to overthrow.

This was recalled yesterday by the socialist spokesperson in the Valencian council, Sandra Gómez, who denounced the "cynicism" of the mayor since her party took this rule to the Constitutional Court. "It is curious that the PP and Mrs. Catalá take advantage of the purchase of this property when if it were up to them this operation could never have occurred because they appealed the law to the Constitutional Court," said the PSPV spokesperson.

Along the same lines, Compromís councilor Papi Robles emphasized that the project began since its formation last term and that Catalá, which "has never agreed on the Law of trial and withdrawal," is now trying to appropriate it.

The City Council explains that the residential building that María José Catalá visited yesterday is made up of 131 homes, with 2 and 3 bedrooms, 84 parking spaces distributed in two basements and 22 storage rooms, also built in the two basements. In addition, it has 131 bicycle spaces enabled on the ground floor with access from the hallway.

Of the 131 homes, 85 of them have two bedrooms with a useful area of 45-53 square meters while the rest of the remaining 46 homes have three bedrooms and have a surface area between 65 and 74 square meters.

Once the entire purchase process has been completed, the allocation phase will begin among the 1,682 people who appear in the register of applicants for a rental home, so that the homes will already be inhabited in the first quarter of 2024.
