A law to eliminate community debt

The Government does not see possibilities in the near horizon of promoting a reform of the regional financing system without the participation of the PP. But the first vice president and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, is determined to promote this year a specific law so that the State assumes part of the debt of all the autonomous communities, both that which comes from the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA ) that was implemented to face the consequences of the financial crisis as well as other instruments. Also, therefore, for the Community of Madrid.

Pedro Sánchez himself highlighted the importance that this reduction of regional debt will have, precisely by rejecting the unique financing for Catalonia that Pere Aragonès demands. Specifically, the debt relief for Catalonia, according to the Executive's calculations, will be 15,000 million euros, which will mean a saving of 1,300 million in interest. This measure, according to Sánchez, will thus give “financial capacity, muscle and autonomy” to the Government of the Generalitat. And the one that can be established after the 12-M elections.
