A former president of Real was sentenced to 10 years

The former president of the Real Sociedad Iñaki Badiola has been sentenced to ten years and eight months in prison after a San Sebastià court concluded that he was, "without any doubt", the author of the slander and insults from two anonymous Twitter accounts. Under the name Gipuzkoa Confidencial, Badiola slandered and insulted judges, politicians and journalists between 2017 and 2018, according to the sentence. The realist ex-president, however, will not have to go to prison, since individually no sentence exceeds two years in prison.

Specifically, the criminal court number 3 of Sant Sebastià has imposed on Badiola eight sentences of 16 months in prison for crimes of slander and serious injury, as well as a fine of 180,000 euros and 195,000 euros in compensation. The court has concluded that the former president of Real was behind the two accounts linked to Gipuzkoa Confidencial (@GipuzkoaConfide and @gipuzkoaconfid) based essentially on a report by the Ertzaintza, which concluded "in 99%" that the The realist ex-president was the author of those messages. Also key was the photo of a Treasury official published by these accounts and which only he could take, since it was taken in a meeting between the two of them in which no one else was present.

Those affected by Badiola's slander are the current general deputy of Gipuzkoa, Penabista Markel Olano; the former Donostia mayor Odón Elorza, although he withdrew from the case; four magistrates; a notary; a judicial officer; several workers from the Treasury area, and finally, several professionals from El Diario Vasco. Much of the insults and slanders were related to the case of Donostia photographer Kote Cabezudo, convicted of crimes of rape, sexual abuse and child pornography. Badiola accused the victims of his attacks of having silenced the case or even complicity.

The court has also concluded that there is "a thread" between Badiola and the victims, whom the former president blamed for his departure from Real a year after taking office. A removal from the board of directors put an end to Badiola's short term in December 2008 and promoted the current president, Jokin Aperribay.
