Madrid offers free travel on the EMT bus for two days, after the Easter holidays

The buses of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) will once again be free for 48 hours after Easter, on April 11 and 12, reports the City Council of the capital in a statement.

In this way, the free service is activated during the sessions tomorrow, Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 April, from midnight on Tuesday to 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday. Travelers, as on previous occasions, must validate their ticket, and if the user does not have a ticket, the driver will give him a single ticket at no cost.

The promotion of the bus is key to promoting sustainable mobility in the city of Madrid on dates in which the capital is expected to recover "a high number" of trips after the Easter break.

More than 34 million passengers transported by EMT on free lines 001 and 002 and during free days, of which more than 10.4 million passengers were non-regular users of public transport.

This is the thirteenth time that Madrid activates free. The capital was a pioneer in launching this measure in January 2021, after the passage of storm Philomena. That same year, to act on rush hour in public transport, it was activated, from September 1 to 15 and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. In November 2021, he was brought back as an incentive during Black Friday 2021.

In January 2022, after the Christmas holidays, the free service was activated for two days, as well as on April 19 and 20 and after the Easter holidays. This free service was also activated during the NATO Summit, on June 28, 29 and 30 and in the month of September 2022, the measure was launched twice: on the 1st and on the 7th and 8th to Accompany the return to work and schools.

At the end of November 2022, the measure was activated again during the Black Friday weekend, transporting more than three million travelers. Another free day took place on December 12 on the occasion of the return of the Constitution Bridge, and the last occasion was in the month of January 2023 after the Christmas holidays.

Last Wednesday, March 29, 1,529,000 travelers were reached, a figure that represents the absolute record registered in EMT since the start of the pandemic.

This measure will continue to be implemented on days identified with a high level of traffic. Also in episodes of high pollution, the Madrid City Council will activate the free use of its municipal buses. Last year, more than 373 million passengers used the capital's buses, which is 76 million more than the previous year.
