"Help, it kills my mother!": the cry of a child in Toledo who avoided the tragedy

Sexist violence has skyrocketed in 2023. With 50 murders in just nine months of the year, this is already the place in which the most femicides have occurred since there are records and in which the most orphaned minors have been left. In some cases, the quick action of some people, such as one's own children, can help save lives. As in the case of a 9-year-old boy from Torrijos, Toledo, whose screams saved his mother's life.

A group of civil guards managed to arrest the woman's ex-partner when they heard the minor's screams. "Help, he's killing my mother!" the woman's son exclaimed through the window. At that time, the attacker was trying to break into the building by breaking down the door with a hammer.

As soon as they heard the boy, a group of officers from a police station located eight meters from the block of flats, from where the minor was pleading for help, went to the scene. As reported by El Norte de Castilla, a total of ten agents ended up surrounding the aggressor's vehicle, with which he was trying to escape.

While they tried to restrain him, the man brandished the hammer with which he had tried to break down the door of his ex-partner, who was registered as high risk in the Gender Violence system (Viogén) and who has another child in common with the alleged aggressor. . "He wanted to tear her down to kill her," they say in the neighborhood, where they had already heard several episodes of voices and threats before.

It all happened at 9:30 a.m. last Friday, a few hours after a man murdered his wife by running over her with his car on a road in Val de Santo Domingo, just seven kilometers away.

The man, who was drunk, was arrested for breach of sentence and an alleged crime of gender violence.
