Almost 13 years in prison for the instigators of an acid attack on a young man

There is already a sentence for those responsible for the attack with sulfuric acid that in 2019 disfigured the minor Kamal Moloudi in the town of Caspe, province of Zaragoza. This Wednesday, the Zaragoza Court sentenced the perpetrator, Aitor Gordillo, to 12 years in prison for attempted murder, while the two people who entrusted him with the "work" were sentenced to 12 years and nine months behind bars.

Based on the evidence carried out, the court considers it proven that Sara and José Giménez Clavería (the first is the niece of the second, whom they nickname El Recortao) decided to look for someone to cause harm to Kamal with the purpose of revenge against Yahya Maloudi, husband Sara's and the boy's older brother, who had abandoned his wife to settle on his own in Germany.

For their vendetta, they contacted several people to whom they offered money and drugs in exchange for pouring the acid that they would provide on the young man. His intention was to cause as much damage as possible, even if it meant the death of the victim. Although Aitor Gordillo, the hit man who ultimately accepted the assignment, remained silent throughout the entire process, a protected witness declared that Sara had offered him "500 euros in cash and another 500 in coke" for that same attack.

The facts prosecuted date back to May 3, 2019. That day, the hitman went to the vicinity of the institute where Kamal, who was 17 years old at the time, studied, with a bottle containing the corrosive liquid that the Giménez had provided him. When the minor was going to his house, the attacker, dressed in panties that covered his face up to his nose and with a hood, suddenly assaulted him and threw the contents of the bottle over his head.

Kamal, whose screams alerted his relatives, was seriously injured. According to the report from the Miguel Servet hospital in Zaragoza where he was treated, "there was a real danger to his life due to the particularly affected area (his face) and the requirement for assisted respiration in the ICU." The young man still has serious physical and psychological consequences.

In addition to the prison sentences, the Zaragoza Court imposed a measure of removal and communication on the victim on the three convicted for the next 15 years. He also decreed compensation in favor of Kamal of about 300,000 euros, as well as other minors of 4,400 and 560 euros for two of his brothers, who also suffered burns while trying to help him. The sentence is not yet final and may be appealed before the Superior Court of Justice of Aragon (TSJA)

As for the other three investigated in this case -Iván Mara, Raúl Cortes and Teresa Parra-, the Chamber understands that their participation in the events has not been proven and acquits them.

The process was a hard swallow for the victim, who had already expressed his desire to turn the page on previous occasions. "It has been a very long trial, apart from these four years, also very long for me, my family, my friends and my around. I ask that justice be done, that all this waiting has not been in vain, ”she said at the conclusion of the hearing.

Despite the consequences, the young man is trying to rebuild his life, for which he has resumed his studies -second year of high school- before trying to prepare for the Police opposition.
