A 9-year-old boy sees his parents die for trying to save their dog

Two 27-year-old people died this weekend in a canal in Chachingo Park in Maipú (Chile) after jumping into the water to rescue their pet. His 9-year-old son witnessed the entire disaster and went looking for help from the nearest neighbors, who alerted the emergency services.

The trigger for the tragedy was the family dog that, after being stung by a bee, fell into one of the local irrigation canals.

The father, seeing that the dog was not going to be able to get out of there, due to the strong intensity of the current, jumped to his rescue, but suffered the same problem as his pet. Her mother, seeing that her husband was also unable to "regain verticality in the water", decided to pull herself up to help him, and she too was trapped by the powerful flow.

The son of the victims, seeing how his parents had stopped fighting to rescue their pet to fight for their lives, ran in search of a neighbor who could help his parents. Residents in the area tried to help the couple and alerted emergencies about what was happening.

The boy, desperate to see his parents' lives slowly fading away, also jumped into the water to rescue them. When they arrived at the scene, the staff rescued the child, who was momentarily in critical condition, and took out the bodies of his parents, trying to resuscitate them with CPR techniques with which they were unsuccessful.

The victims, identified as Gastón Federico Navarro García and Micaela Díaz Montalvo, from Godoy Cruz and both 27 years old, along with their dog, have been confirmed to have died by "drowning and asphyxiation," according to Gustavo Pirrello, homicide prosecutor. Currently, the child is stable and resides with relatives.
