The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has issued a new alert in relation to an ALPRO vegetable drink that contains milk without declaring it on the label, and recommends that those who are allergic or intolerant avoid consuming it.

Specifically, it is the 'Almond drink' in a one-liter container with batch number 320.2 0 and expiration date 08/16/23. The labeling states that "may contain traces of nuts. Dairy-free and gluten-free. Naturally lactose-free."

The AESAN, however, has learned thanks to an alert notification sent by the Madrid health authorities that the product does include milk.

The information has been notified through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange to verify the withdrawal of the drink in question from the marketing channels.

The affected batch has been distributed in the autonomous community of Madrid, but it could also have been redistributed in other parts of the country.

Those who are allergic or intolerant to milk components who may have the aforementioned product in their homes are recommended to refrain from consuming it.

But the intake of this product does not pose any danger to the rest of the population.

Last week, a 17-year-old girl with an allergy to milk protein suffered anaphylactic shock after consuming coffee with traces of milk from a coffee pot, and died in the ICU days after being admitted. Then several media erroneously claimed that the tragic incident was due to lactose intolerance.

In statements to Efe, the president of the Catalan Allergy Society, Joan Bartra, stated that in "serious reactions that can lead to fatality, the cause is not lactose intolerance, but allergy to milk proteins."
