We are talking about the Terrats en Cultura festival, which reaches its twelfth edition programming shows by the Roseland dance company, a theatrical piece by Gerard Vázquez, another by Denise Duncan, a dialogue about flamenco between Juan Carlos Lérida and Niño de Elche on the 28th June, titled The Mount of Olives... and so on up to fifteen acts.
The operation is easy: on the website you can now check the day and time of each show, as well as the neighborhood of Barcelona or l'Hospitalet de Llobregat where it can be seen. The exact address where it will be done will not be known until 48 hours before. They are often terraces of neighboring houses, private properties that are opened exceptionally to offer one of the festival shows.
Some roofs repeat, but most are new. The organization misses that, for example, the performance of L'enterrador, by Gerard Vázquez, in which Pepe Zapata interprets the story of the undertaker of Paterna during the Civil War, pure historical memory, “will be held in Poblenou on June 13, in a building closely related to a cemetery.” Two plus two is four.
This edition brings together 15 shows, 10 of performing arts and 5 of music, and the capacity never exceeds one hundred people, "so as not to lose the essence and the unique experience of one day, although some shows are held twice," explain those responsible. from the organization Coincidències, Lola Armadàs and Anna Piferrer. Terrats en Cultura resumes on June 1 with the dance of Jo soc d'aquí, from Roseland. “The piece talks about coexistence and the current reality of our society, and the entire story takes place inside a block in Eixample,” say the members of the company.
On June 15, in La bellesa del diable, Pol Forment vindicates the work of his father, Josep, who translated the complete works of Rimbaud and who repeated that he should be known for his work and not for his life. “The idea is that the public attends a meeting beyond time and space, invoking the spirits of the translator and the poet.” The text is by Pablo Ley and the music by Jorge de la Torre.
On June 29, the poetry of Núria Perpinyà will arrive with Changing skies. On July 13, in Deix, the dance of Quim Bigas will pair with DO Catalunya wines. On July 25, Kathy Sey will play Tituba. Witch, black and harlot, a text by Denise Duncan about a real character in Salem. And on July 26th, the stand-up of Andrés Faingold will make an appearance.
The music will be provided by Anaïs Vila (14/VI), the Valencian fusion of Tacho (12/VII), Núria Duran (18/VII) and the rumba of Muchacho (19/VII). Terrats en Cultura ends on July 27 with the musical Les Dones de Guido, in which Mariona Castillo plays all the roles, with the pianist Gustavo Llull. “We are excited because we will be able to bring a piano to the roof,” conclude those responsible.
