Ramon Llull brings 'Bestiary' to the Art Biennale

Bestiari, the project of the artist Carlos Casas and the curator Filipa Ramos, will participate in the 60th international art exhibition of the Venice Biennale, which will take place from April 20 to November 24, 2024.

The work won the selection process called by the Institut Ramon Llull for the participation of Catalan culture in the Eventi Collaterali program of this event.

From a current point of view, the work, which will be reflected in an audiovisual exhibition, pays homage to Disputa de l'ase, a text written between 1417 and 1418 by the Majorcan author Anselm Turmeda.

Elvira Dyangani Ose, director of the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), chaired the expert committee that chose this proposal. The group has included Marko Daniel, director of the Joan Miró Foundation (Barcelona); Ruth Estévez, director and chief curator of Amant Foundation; Oriol Fontdevila, curator of the Catalan exhibition at the Venice Art Biennale 2022; Ingrid Guardiola, director of the Bòlit - Contemporary Art Center of Girona; and Andrea Lissoni, artistic director of Haus der Kunst.

This jury alleges that Bestiari is "an invitation to delve into the soundscapes that emanate from the Catalan natural parks in time synchrony", as well as "an allegory of contemporary worlds that arise from the displacement of anthropocentism and ocularcentrism".
