How to prevent your cat from climbing on certain surfaces

Anyone who has been lucky enough to have a feline companion in their home will know that cats, whatever their personality, are not very good at following orders and abiding by rules. Therefore, as much as it is annoying for them to jump and walk on certain surfaces and for you to let them know, there is no guarantee that they will stop trying. However, it is important for owners to set limits, especially when it comes to spaces that could pose some type of danger or risk to the well-being of their pets. Such as certain places in the kitchen, for example.

Many cat owners may already be on the verge of giving up, because they see that, despite their complaints, scolding and lamentations, they cannot get their pets to change this behavior. However, it is not something impossible, but rather something that is usually managed incorrectly and using the wrong or even totally inadvisable tools, such as yelling at them.

The first thing to ask yourself when dealing with this situation is why the cat insists on getting on these surfaces. Since there are very specific reasons that could be behind this behavior and explain the feline's attitude. One of the most frequent reasons has to do with the fact that the environment in which the animal lives has not been enriched for it.

Cats need to stay active, through games and also through exercise. Therefore, if they are not provided with formulas to satisfy these basic needs, they themselves will look for a way to do so. That is, these cats feel bored and do not have stimuli that allow them to release stress and energy. A solution to prevent them from climbing into spaces in the house again and again involves providing them with specific tools, such as various toys, scratching posts, and, of course, dedicating time for the cat and owner to have fun together. Because yes, it can also mean that the pet is lacking attention.

However, another possibility is that they look for a place to rest peacefully. Cats need beds and places where they can lie down comfortably to rest. If they have them, the problem may be that they are located in traffic or busy areas of the house. They need to have a corner in a quieter part of the home in which to take refuge.

To all this we must add the importance of the cat's owner properly training him and assertively teaching him that he should not climb on those prohibited surfaces. This requires a lot of patience and time, in addition to starting the process as soon as possible.
