How to prepare for the arrival home of a premature baby

A baby is considered premature if it is born before 37 weeks of gestation has been completed. In Spain, the rate of premature babies is 7%. That the baby is premature is one of the main concerns during pregnancy, as this circumstance can lead to complications both in childbirth and in the health and development of the newborn.

After birth, the premature baby is cared for by the team of Neonatology professionals and, when the child has improved sufficiently, he or she will be discharged and can go home. Looking ahead to that moment, it is important that parents know how to prepare for the child's arrival home and take care of all his or her needs. To this end, the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP) compiles a series of guidelines and advice for caring for premature babies at home.
