How to choose the perfect brush for our pet

There are people who spend more time looking for tricks to remove pet hair than giving them a good brushing that prevents them from shedding so much. As the fur sheds occurs, it accumulates, which is not positive for the animals. In fact, in cases of long-haired dogs and cats, it can become a problem, due to the formation of knots, which will compromise the health of their skin. To avoid this, it is best to establish a brushing routine.

However, the responsibilities of pet owners do not end there. The first step to adopting this habit is to find a brush or comb that suits the pet's coat. For this, it will be necessary to differentiate if it is a cat or a dog, in addition to its size and the type of hair that makes up its coat.

The dog comb is the most universal and works for all breeds, whether they are medium or long-haired. Its main function is to untangle and eliminate knots that form in the pet's fur. The disadvantage is that you have to use it carefully to avoid pulling. Unlike what happens with the long-haired brush, ideal for long coats and also to achieve a softer brushing. In order to avoid skin discomfort, it is recommended to purchase one with rounded tips.

But sometimes this is not enough and another is needed to cover more hair, that is the carding one, more common for dogs with curly fur. With it, dead hair is untangled and removed. In cases where there are knots that are difficult to remove, the recommendation will be to use a slider. On the other hand, short-haired dogs will suffice with a conventional or even glove-type comb.

The most versatile brush for cats is the carded one, without too much curve and without excessive size. It is comfortable to wear and pleasant for cats. They tend to work in most cases, remove dead hair and can get rid of tangles. Another very similar alternative is the typical bristle comb, although it can bother the cat during its use if care is not taken, especially if it tends to move a lot during brushing.

However, neither of these two will be as efficient at undoing knots and tangles as a knot-cutter comb. Every long-haired cat owner needs one of these at home, as it will be the most effective way to remove stubborn knots.
