'Campeonex' achieves the best Spanish film premiere in 2023 with 1.6 million euros

'Campeonex', by Javier Fesser, has been the best Spanish film release so far this year, reaching 1.6 million euros this weekend at the box office, according to data from ComscoreMoviesSpain.

Already last Friday, Fesser's film reached a collection of about 603,000 euros on its first day in theaters, as reported in a RTVE statement. Thus, the film brought together 32% of viewers in theaters, after its premiere in 427 cinemas and 623 screens throughout Spain.

The box office figure for the first day of 'Campeonex' has almost doubled that of the opening of the original film, 'Campeones', of 340,000 euros. 'Campeones' premiered its first part in 2018 and won several awards, including three Goya awards, including best film.

This new installment has a new coach, played by Elisa Hipólito, and is as emotional as it is funny and includes the signing of Brianeitor, a young man who suffers from degenerative muscular atrophy, and who is a real discovery for the team and for the cinema. In an interview with this newspaper, Fesser assured that with Campeonex "I want to show that nothing is impossible".
