Barcelona will dedicate a new walk to the writer Paco Candel

The presentation of the nomenclator has given the OK to dedicate a new walk to the writer Francesc Candel. The walk is located in the Prat Vermell Marina neighborhood, in the Sants-Montjuïc district. The new road of about 1.5 km will go from Calle de la Metal·lúrgia to Paseo de la Zona Franca. The space is in full redevelopment, between Calle del Plom and Calle del Foc.

On January 15, 2008, at the meeting of the presentation, it was already approved to give the name of the writer and journalist to a space in the city, but the exact location had to be determined. The chosen promenade is located where the writer lived throughout his life and where, right next to it, were the cheap houses of Eduard Aunós, the popular single-family homes where he lived with his family and, in turn, where one of his most important works is located. recognized, Where the city changes its name.

Paco Candel was born on May 31, 1925, in Casas Altas, Racó d'Ademús in the Valencian Country, although he emigrated to Barcelona with his parents when he was only two years old, where he would finally die 80 years later.

He wrote novels, short stories and essays and was also a prolific journalist as he published articles and reports in several newspapers and magazines, such as the Ideal magazine, from the Can Tunis neighborhood, on Tele/eXpres, in the Avui newspaper and also in La Marina, the magazine of the neighborhoods that surround the Zona Franca.

Much of his work, with a clear autobiographical component, is dedicated to the Spanish migratory wave in Barcelona in the mid-20th century: There is a youth that awaits (1956), Where the city changes its name (1957), They have killed a man, they have broken the landscape (1959), Els altres catalans (1964) and Un charnego en el Senado (1979), among many other titles.

His work also includes Échate un pulso, Hemingway (1985), El juramento y otros relatos (1987), That vanished childhood (1987), My schools (1998), Petit món (1999), The other Catalans of the 21st century (2000 ) and El sant de la mare Margarida (2001).

Candel also dedicated himself to active politics. In 1977 he was elected senator in the Spanish Cortes for the demarcation of Barcelona under the candidacy of l'Entesa dels Catalans. In 1979 he was a councilor for l'Hospitalet de Llobregat on the PSUC list and took charge of the Culture area.
