The work, which recalls some of the most shocking chapters in contemporary history, aims to recover the memory of fifty Badalonians who suffered exile at the end of the Civil War, and who ended up being deported to the Mauthausen Nazi extermination camp, at the outbreak of World War II. World War. The careful work carried out by historians has allowed the book to contain numerous previously unpublished data, such as aspects of the biography of these men.
'The 50 of Badalona. Deportation in Nazi camps' is divided into three sections. The first is a historical introduction that brings readers closer to the circumstances of the moment: the end of the Civil War and the subsequent exile.
The second part, ordered chronologically according to the departure date of the convoys, is dedicated to the deportees and provides a short biography of each of them. Finally, the third block analyzes, based on statistical data, the characteristics of the deportees from Badalona: who they were, their places of origin, where they lived, their profession, political militancy, etc.
The fact of knowing their addresses has been essential for the future project that will allow these places to be marked with Stolpersteine paving stones, the memory tiles in memory of the victims of Nazism, which were created by the German artist Gunter Demnig to keep the memory alive , question pedestrians and invite them to reflect on barbarism. The pieces have already been requested through the Democratic Memorial of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
