Am I entitled to a dining scholarship?

Back to school is just around the corner and that means getting back to the routine after the summer holidays. You have to readjust sleep schedules, put a limit on the hours of screens and play to replace them with homework and extracurricular classes. It is also time to consider all the expenses involved in going back to school: textbooks, school supplies, uniforms or clothes to go to school, sports equipment for certain activities, etc.

Many families must add to the equation the cost of having their children go to the school canteen. This is a very helpful resource to facilitate the reconciliation of family and work life, since the little ones remain at the school while their parents work if their schedules do not allow them to pick them up and take them home to eat. For them it is also a good opportunity to continue socializing with their friends. In some cases, the dining room is even an opportunity for children to enjoy a complete and balanced meal, something that not all families can offer them at home on a daily basis.

Precisely for those families that have difficulties to face all the expenses derived from the care and maintenance of the children, the autonomous communities award the dining room scholarships. With them, families receive financial aid with which to cover all or part of their children's attendance fee at the school canteen.

Each regional government is in charge of regulating the award of dining room scholarships and, therefore, the requirements to access them, as well as the deadlines and application procedures. These are usually published during the summer of the current year in the bulletins of each community. Although many criteria differ from one community to another, there are several common points that all require to be entitled to the dining room scholarship, whether it is the fulfillment of one or more of them.
