A Tiktok trick reveals how to measure water to cook rice without resorting to cups

Sometimes we make the mistake of believing that some tasks are very easy when, in a matter of seconds, they can go wrong. Boiling the rice is one of them, or have you ever made a mistake with the amount of water needed to make it just right?

Normally, in order not to fail, we usually measure this quantity with cups (2 of water for 1 of rice); but a viral trick on Tiktok debunks this belief, stating that you don't have to count on cups, but on phalanges.

Let's clarify a little about what this concept is about. As explained by Érik, a member of the Chinese-Latin tiktoker couple that has managed to get his video more than 5.3 million likes, if we want to prepare Chinese-style rice, what we have to do to make it perfect is add water in the pot until the first phalanx of the finger.

In the video Érik also explains that no matter how big the pot is, for him (of Chinese origin) the measure of water is always a phalanx, although what he does not clarify is whether the measure of the finger counts.

The reason why the rice is cooked to perfection with this amount of water is that the water filters through the rice and what is left over (which is a phalanx) is the excess water that will be used to cook the rice.

Once this is done, you just have to light the fire (be careful not to put your finger in the water when the water is hot, you always have to do it when it is cold) and let the rice cook. It is also important to observe what variety of rice we are cooking because they do not all need the same water.
