7 floral and delicious wines to celebrate the arrival of May

This week's seven bottles are made with seven different grape varieties, but they have something in common: their freshness and delicacy. Designed to be consumed in spring, fruity and floral flavors abound with some acidic touches. Furthermore, the wines chosen by sommelier María José Huertas have denominations such as Do Toro, DO Empordà and IGP Castilla León, but most do not exceed 20 euros.

Pale salmon in color. This rosé wine is made with callet from the Son Negre area. Its grapes macerate with skins for 20 hours and are aged in cement tanks for 4 months. On the nose it is very fragrant, perfumed and delicate. White flowers, acid strawberry, stone fruit and herbal touches can be seen. In the mouth it is light, elegant, refreshing and with a floral finish again.

François Lurton's commitment to a Toro wine where fruit prevails, fusing the French soul with the Toro terroir. The result has been a great success and clearly reveals the character of the variety and the area, joviality being its greatest exponent. In aromas it displays flowers, red berries, blueberries and some balsamic notes. Smooth palate, with good acidity and tannin that gives it volume. Gastronomic wine.

If there is a grape variety par excellence that evokes floral aromas, it is Torrontés. Part of the secret to the success of this white wine is that its vineyards grow at 1,800 meters above sea level, in one of the highest altitude areas in the world, the Calchaquíes Valley. Slightly golden in tone. On the nose we find rose petals, orange blossom, candied orange and sweet spices from the barrel aging. The palate is gentle on the palate, with vibrant acidity and a once again floral finish.

In this wine we find a Mencia from very old vines and that is surely part of its success. It has well-defined floral features associated with this variety, such as touches of violet. It also displays aromas of spices, earthiness and forest berries. On the palate, fresh fruit is a priority in the palate and its mineral finish. It was aged in new French barrels for 11 months.

The combination of these Garnachas is wonderful, with the red dominating to obtain an absolutely delicious sweet wine with an amber color. The character of its fruit is ripe, with candied stone fruit, orange, dried flowers, honey and sweet spices. The palate is very enveloping, sweet, friendly and with a long and perfumed finish.

If we talk about Massolino, we talk about one of the great and most admired producers in Piedmont. His vineyards for the production of this red wine are located in Serralunga and are a perfect expression of this variety. It is very fragrant, floral, fruity and absolutely primal as it is only aged in stainless steel for about 6 months. The palate is sparkling, jovial, fresh and easy to drink.

These are vines planted in 1920, hence the centenary category. Zamorano white wine that belongs to the Gil family and is absolutely deceptive. It clearly reveals the essence of the grape, being pure perfume. I find notes of candied apple, dried flowers, chamomile, aromatic herbs, fine toasted notes, dried fruits and sweet spices. On the palate the balance between acidity and friendliness is perfect. Broad in the palate and leaves fine notes of its time in the barrel and a light mineral sensation for the end.
